Although Nat Hentoff did a fine job of writing the notes on the back cover for this Italian record, it has a variety of sounds that are a bit difficult to describe. There is really not a lot here that could be described as typical or predictable, however it is not weird or free sounding either…it is interesting to note that one of the favorite Jazz albums of Enrico Rava is CHARLIE PARKER WITH STRINGS.
In addition to Rava, the String Band includes Nana Vasconcelos, Tony Oxley, Giovanni Tommaso, and Augusto Mancinelli. The great cover art painting is by Altan. The cover shows very little surface wear on the front or back. It does have one saw mark near the bottom right corner and minor wear around the spine, but no seam or spine splitting, no tears, and no writing. The record looks like it has hardly been played, and even under a lamp nothing shows on the grooves except a beautiful glossy luster.
